What motivated you to apply for the EHRA Training Fellowship Programme?
Although Egypt has well-equipped clinical facilities, there remains a significant gap in the number of cardiac electrophysiology interventions and device implantations. Thanks to the EHRA Fellowship Grant, I had the opportunity to acquire invaluable international knowledge and skills, essential for advancing cardiac electrophysiology and device implantation in Egypt.
The fellowship was established in response to the increasing demand for highly skilled professionals capable of performing advanced procedures with minimal risk. This opportunity enabled me to further develop my expertise and contribute to the progress of the field.
Which challenges did you usually encounter as an electrophysiologist?
One of the primary challenges in mastering new cardiac technologies is effectively communicating with specialists to absorb their knowledge. Additionally, managing complex cases efficiently presents another significant hurdle. Both the Ordensklinikum Linz and the Herz- und Diabeteszentrum NRW in Bad Oeynhausen are renowned for their advanced cardiac electrophysiology programmes and high procedural volumes. These institutions align perfectly with my commitment to excellence and specialisation.
Tell us more about your experience during the programme.
During my fellowship, I trained under globally recognised cardiac electrophysiologists, focusing on becoming an independent primary operator for the implantation of pacemakers, defibrillators, and cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) devices. I dedicated myself to mastering every aspect of these procedures to ensure successful outcomes. Beyond technical proficiency, I sought a thorough understanding of the logistical processes, including patient referrals, outpatient clinics, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
Moving to a different country did not just present challenges, but also valuable differences that enriched my professional journey. Each obstacle provided an opportunity to learn, which in turn strengthened my resilience, confidence, and skills.
