Valvular heart disease affects millions worldwide, and its impact is growing with an ageing population.

Our Council is committed to advancing the field of VHD by promoting fundamental research, enhancing knowledge among cardiologists and non-cardiologists alike, and improving the full spectrum of VHD care. 

By working as one multidisciplinary community, we’re improving how VHD is understood, diagnosed, and treated. While innovations like TAVI have transformed care, new challenges continue to emerge. From screening to intervention, we’re refining care pathways and empowering you to deliver better outcomes for patients everywhere.

2025 ESC/EACTS Guidelines for the management of valvular heart disease

The 2025 ESC/EACTS Guidelines update the 2021 valvular heart disease recommendations. Key revisions highlight the central role of the Heart Team, the importance of Heart Valve Centres, and advances in diagnostic imaging with clearer criteria for complex VHD. They also refine indications and timing for interventional options across the spectrum of VHD.
