Welcome to the August Edition of the newsletter from the ESC Working Group on Coronary Pathophysiology and Microcirculation.
This issue is dedicated to ESC Congress 2026 in Munich, the central highlight of our scientific and educational activities this year.
We are happy to celebrate our young members and recipients of the Working Group Awards, and to highlight the key sessions in which our Working Group will actively contribute, warmly encouraging your participation and engagement.
ESC Congress 2026: Get Ready, Munich Awaits!
Munich, Germany | 28–31 August 2026
ESC Congress remains the leading global meeting in cardiology. This year’s programme offers a unique opportunity to engage with transformative advances across cardiovascular medicine. Do not miss the sessions featuring contributions from our Working Group:
Dr. Edina Cenko will present on women’s cardiovascular health and join a multidisciplinary panel with representatives from ESC, WHO Europe, and the Universities of Copenhagen and Bologna. The session will address sex- and gender-related differences in cardiovascular disease, gaps in clinical trial representation, and strategies to advance equity in cardiovascular care.
Prof. Olivia Manfrini will present on risk stratification and prognosis and, together with Prof. Filippo Crea, will participate in an expert panel discussion on the diagnosis and management of patients with chest pain and non-obstructed coronary arteries, including acute presentations and evidence-based therapeutic strategies.
Prof. Raffaele Bugiardini will present on diet and sex-related disparities in post-ischaemic heart disease outcomes and join a high-level panel discussion on structural inequalities in cardiovascular health. The session will explore key risk factors, emerging prevention strategies, and the determinants driving disparities in cardiovascular outcomes across populations.

With ESC Congress 2026 fast approaching, we are pleased to announce the Working Groups & Councils Awards Networking Reception, which will take place on 30 August, 18:30–20:00, at Clinical Case 2 (Research Gateway).

We look forward to celebrating this year’s Working Groups Awards recipients, including the recognition of two best abstracts submitted by young investigators (under 40 years old) in the field of coronary artery disease, coronary pathophysiology, and microcirculation. The event will also highlight the achievements of the Working Groups and Councils, offering an excellent opportunity for networking and scientific exchange during ESC Congress 2026.
