This month, we have included two very interesting articles about Marfan syndrome in our newsletter. Each addresses a different aspect of the condition.
The first article (Advances in Marfan Syndrome Care, by Maria Tchitchinadze et al.) concludes that in patients with Marfan while the incidence of type A aortic dissections has decreased and survival rates have improved, current care does not prevent type B dissections, the incidence of which has remained constant. These findings are important for patient education and for focusing future research on the remaining challenges.
The second article (Genotype-Guided Risk Stratification of Mitral Valve Surgery in Marfan Syndrome) we propose focuses on genotype-guided risk stratification for mitral valve surgery in Marfan syndrome, by Yuki Kawashima et al.
In this study, the authors aimed to evaluate genotype-specific differences in mitral valve disease progression and surgical intervention to inform precision medicine approaches for Marfan syndrome, thereby highlighting the importance of genotype-based risk stratification, particularly regarding mitral valve surgery.

Joint sessions with the Genetic Aortic Network and the European Society of Cardiology’s Working Group on Aorta & Peripheral Vascular Diseases are planned on October 6–7 2026.
