Is there a recognised cardio-oncology group or society in your country?

In Armenia, a working group on cardio-oncology exists under the auspices of the Armenian Cardiology Association. Created in 2023, the group brings together approximately 120–130 physicians, including cardiologists, oncologists, and chemotherapists.

Clinical Practice

Armenia currently has one dedicated cardio-oncology department, located within the National Centre of Oncology. In other large multidisciplinary hospitals, cardio-oncological care is supported through specialist consultants and multidisciplinary boards. There is a recognised need for greater participation in joint registries and collaborative research with European colleagues within the ESC Council of Cardio-oncology.

Education

Specialised educational courses dedicated to cardio-oncology are not yet available in Armenia. Nevertheless, the Armenian Cardiology Association has translated the ESC recommendations on cardio-oncology into Armenian, making these guidelines more accessible to local practitioners. A joint conference was also held within the framework of the ECCC in collaboration with European colleagues.

Research

A multicentre study involving three centres was conducted among women with breast cancer receiving chemotherapy, focusing on early subclinical signs of cardiotoxicity, including diastolic dysfunction assessed through tissue Doppler parameters, and biomarkers. This work was accepted as a poster presentation at the Cardio-oncology Conference in Florence. Several similar studies are currently underway.
