The recent creation of the ESC Council of Cardio-Oncology Study Groups is a crucial development in the council's mission to enhance the field of cardio-oncology. This initiative is fundamental to assembling a team of specialists with diverse expertise to delve into the complex relationship between cancer and heart health.

These groups are essential for making strides in our understanding and handling of how cancer therapy affects cardiovascular well-being. They present an exceptional chance to improve education, in line with the ESC's Core Curriculum recommendations, and to lead groundbreaking research. Through collaborative efforts, the aim is to develop advanced methods for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of heart issues in cancer patients.

Translational and Immune Cardio-Oncology

Mechanisms, immunology, inflammation, immune checkpoint inhibitors, CAR-T/bispecifics, omics, experimental models and translational research.

Diagnostics in Cardio-Oncology

Biomarkers, cardiovascular imaging, AI and risk prediction: Cardio-oncology applications of imaging and biomarkers, risk scores, AI-supported monitoring, early detection and longitudinal surveillance pathways.

Therapeutics in Cardio-Oncology

Thrombosis, anticoagulation, bleeding risk, vascular toxicity, hypertension, metabolic risk, prevention, cardioprotection and cardiovascular risk management during cancer treatment. Specific topics such as amyloidosis and radiotherapy-related cardiovascular toxicity may also be addressed within this group, depending on the focus of each project.

Multidisciplinary Clinical Care, Survivorship and Nursing

Survivorship, long-term follow-up, patient pathways, nursing and allied health professional leadership, rehabilitation, patient education and multidisciplinary care models.
