ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines

The 2025 ESC/EACTS Guidelines for the management of valvular heart disease (VHD) are an update of the 2021 version of this document. Key topics that have been updated include the central role of the Heart Team including patient-centred decision making, the importance of Heart Valve Centres for management of complex patients, advanced diagnostic imaging with more clearly defined diagnostic criteria for specific VHD pathologies including aortic stenosis and multiple valvular disease, and appropriate indications and timing for different interventional options for patients with VHD.

Guidelines and related materials are for use by individuals for personal or educational purposes. No commercial use is allowed. Re-use permission must be correctly obtained from the publisher.

ESC Guidelines are protected by copyright. As per opt out option under Article 4 §3 of EU Directive 2019/790, the ESC reserves all rights to license uses of ESC Guidelines to train or develop generative artificial intelligence (AI) models, large language models or other deep learning or machine learning models.
