Subclinical atrial fibrillation and the risk of heart failure: insights from ARTESiA

European Journal of Heart Failure

When Silent isn’t so silent after all.

In ARTESiA, progression of subclinical atrial fibrillation (AF) – not baseline burden – doubles the risk of heart failure events. These data challenge the view that short, asymptomatic atrial AF episodes are to be neglected. Instead, AF progression is an early marker of heart failure (HF)  vulnerability. Are we missing the window to act before HF declares itself?
