World Hypertension Day was initiated to increase the awareness of hypertension.
Hypertension remains the leading cardiovascular risk factor worldwide. Elevated blood pressure often presents without symptoms but can damage vital organs such as the heart, brain, and kidneys. Personalising treatment is essential and should take into account sex differences, ageing, comorbidities, quality of life, and life expectancy to improve the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension.
The slogan for World Hypertension Day 2026 is “Controlling Hypertension Together!” It reminds us that effective blood pressure control requires a team effort involving not only patients and physicians, but also nurses, pharmacists, and the families of people living with hypertension.
Both non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatments are essential for long-term blood pressure control. Without this collaborative approach, maintaining adherence over time remains challenging.
Let us work together to improve blood pressure control. We wish you a meaningful World Hypertension Day.
