University of Copenhagen, Denmark
Lars Køber
Prof. Køber is renowned for his tireless research in cardiovascular epidemiology, groundbreaking clinical trials in heart failure, ischaemic heart disease, and atrial fibrillation. “Achievements are not ‘mine’ but ‘ours’. Part of the appeal for me lies in the actual processes of clinical trials, working together to find the most effective ways to conduct them to answer the questions at hand... The hostility the trial attracted from within the medical community at its outset changed completely when the results showed that there was no long-term mortality benefit of the ICD approach over conventional medical therapy. This reinforced to me that you shouldn’t be deterred from investigating something you think is worthwhile just because others don’t agree with you.”
Notable trials of his career include: TRACE, DANISH, HFpEF research.
Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, USA
Roxana Mehran
Prof. Mehran is renowned for her groundbreaking research in interventional procedures, mentorship, patient-centred research, innovation in dual antiplatelet therapy, and acute kidney injury prevention. “Patient-centred research has always been at the core of what I do, striving to address the real-world questions that clinicians face when guidelines and dogma fall short... Promoting equity among healthcare professionals remains a personal mission. Together with Professor Marie-Claude Morice, I co-founded Women as One, a non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing women in our field.”
Notable Trials: TWILIGHT, SMART, Lancet Women and Cardiovascular Disease Commission.
University of Geneva, Switzerland
Ulrich Sigwart
Prof. Sigwart is renowned for conceived vascular stenting and alcohol septal ablation, revolutionising invasive cardiology. “My initial conception of stenting was prompted by the often-poor results I observed with balloon angioplasty... It became obvious to me that some kind of mechanical scaffolding was required to prevent this. And that was the beginning of stenting... Looking to the future, I think that prevention is key to tackling the growing problem of cardiovascular disease.”
Notable Innovations: Vascular stents, alcohol septal ablation for HOCM.

Christine Seidman is the Thomas W. Smith Professor of Medicine and Genetics at Harvard Medical School, an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and Director of the Cardiovascular Genetics Service at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She was an undergraduate at Harvard College and received a M.D. from George Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Seidman served as an intern and resident in Internal Medicine at John Hopkins Hospital and received subspecialty training in cardiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Seidman has pioneered the discovery of the genetic basis for heart muscle disorders, including hypertrophic and dilated cardiomyopathies and congenital heart disease. By engineering human mutations into iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes and mouse models she has identified molecular mechanisms and therapeutic targets. Her work has enabled development of clinical gene-based diagnostics, early and accurate identification of at-risk individuals, and pre-emptive interventions to limit the progression and devastating outcomes associated with these disorders.
Dr. Seidman is the recipient of the American Heart Association Basic Science Prize and Joseph A. Vita Award, the American Society for Clinical Investigation Award, the Pasarow Foundation Award in Cardiovascular Research, the Bristol-Myers Squibb Award for Distinguished Achievement in Cardiovascular Research and the Institut de France Fondation Lefoulon-Delalande Grand Prix for Science Award. She is a member of U.S. National Academy of Medicine and the National Academy of Science.

Prof. Alain Cribier, MD, has been for 20 years Chief of Cardiology at the University Hospital Charles Nicolle of Rouen, France. He became widely recognized for having developed new interventional technologies for the treatment of valvular heart diseases: Balloon Aortic Valvuloplasty in 1985, Mitral Commissurotomy in 1994, and after 15 years of research the Transcatheter Implantation of Aortic Valves (TAVI), performing the first world case in Rouen in 2002. This last breakthrough technology which is now widely used in the world with more than 300 000 patients treated and an explosive growth will have a durable impact on the pattern of medical practice.
