Mission

  • To promote of education and learning in the field of cardiovascular medicine and surgery by providing members with the opportunities to advance the scientific and clinical foundation of the specialty.
  • To facilitate the exchange of scientific and clinical experience between the SHA and other interested organisations within Saudi Arabia and abroad. 
  • To set standards for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease in Saudi Arabia.
  • To provide leadership and advice and perform applied studies on cardiovascular disease and represent the interests of cardiovascular medicine at national and local levels within Saudi Arabia.

The SHA structure includes 8 Working Groups and several committees.

The SHA holds Scientific Sessions annually by rotation in Dammam or Khobar, Riyadh and Jeddah. 19 such meetings have been held so far since the inception of the SHA. There are also symposia on various aspects of cardiovascular medicine or surgery in conjunction with hospitals and clinics throughout Saudi Arabia.

Training of basic and advanced life support primarily by training organising and holding BLS and ACLS courses by health care professionals is arranged by the SHA

The Association participates in the design of cardiology fellowship training programmes for the Arab Board in Cardiology, the Saudi Board in Cardiology as well as Fellowship of King Saud University fellowship in cardiology. 
 
The SHA website has English as well as Arabic sections and aims to educate the public as well as professionals.

Publications

The official publication of the SHA is the Journal of the Saudi Heart Association. The journal, which is peer reviewed and represents the cardiovascular scientific community in the region, has been published for 20 years. As of Spring 2009, however, the journal has changed in style, content and quality and is now published quarterly (January, April, July and October). The journal is in English and can be found on the SHA website.

The SHA also publishes an Arabic language journal, Heart Health, addressing the general public. This journal aims to educate the public and concentrates on prevention of cardiovascular disease.  The Journal is in its ninth year and is published quarterly. Furthermore, the SHA website contains information for patients on cardiology.
