ESC Working Groups

Our Working Groups are where cardiovascular science meets collaboration. These expert-led communities bring together clinicians, researchers, and educators who share a passion for advancing knowledge in specific areas of cardiology.

Each Working Group offers a space to connect, learn, and lead. Benefit from tailored education, research opportunities, and access to exclusive resources, including webinars, live courses, and scientific publications. Whether you're just starting out or deepening your expertise, there’s a Working Group ready to support your journey.

Join a vibrant network of professionals shaping the future of cardiovascular care – one discovery, one connection, one breakthrough at a time.

What's hot

From science to events, it's all right here!

Time for physiological pacing in heart failure?

As physiological pacing gains momentum in heart failure care, does it protect from pacemaker-induced cardiac dysfunction? Does it have advantages over traditional biventricular pacing? Who benefits most and what barriers remain to wider adoption? Haran Burri shares the latest evidence and practical insights.

EU NextGen project advances personalised cardiology

Healthcare is the fastest growing EU expenditure. The need for personalised care in cardiology is rising, but integrating diverse data into artificial intelligence (AI) models remains a challenge. The EU NextGen project will combine sources, including genomic sequencing, to advance personalised cardiology.

Prioritising prevention and early detection for all

Our recent interview with leading experts highlights the key elements that should be part of a CV health check, and why they matter for prevention, follow up and long-term heart health.

FOCUS on the right ventricle

This month, we bring you great resources on the right ventricle (RV) with practical approaches in clinical management and resources to helo you assess patients with RV.

M&PD 2026 - submit your abstract

M&PD brings the field's most pressing advances to Berlin – from genetics, multiomics, and AI, to novel therapies in HCM, DCM, inflammatory cardiomyopathies and restrictive phenotypes. Submit your abstract by 18 August.

Working Groups elections 2026-2028

We are inviting active and committed volunteers to take on leadership roles for the 2026-2028 mandate. Shape the working group's direction and represent your community. Submit your candidacy between 13 April and 4 May.

ESC Congress 2026 – Connect with the community shaping transformation in cardiology

See what awaits at #ESCCongress 2026! From new ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines to dedicated programme tracks, the Scientific Programme shows how innovation is translating into real clinical decision-making. Register by 31 May to save the most.

NEW ESC Gender Equity Report

At the ESC, women hold only one-third of leadership positions. Our Gender Policy drives fair governance and equal access to education, training and research. Explore our new Gender Equity Report to see progress since 2022 and where more action is needed.

Working Group on Adult Congenital Heart Disease

We improve the treatment of congenital heart disease to enable those with even complex congenital heart anomalies, to reach adulthood.

Working Group on Aorta & Peripheral Vascular Diseases

We promote an integrative understanding of the pathophysiology of ‘polyvascular disease’. We focus particularly on prevention, the development of new diagnostic and risk prediction tools, and the advancement of novel therapeutic modalities.

Working Group on Atherosclerosis & Vascular Biology

Guided by our mission to deepen understanding and improve care, we advance diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of atherosclerosis by connecting scientists and accelerating therapies that benefit patients.

Working group on Cardiac Cellular Electrophysiology

Our mission is to foster knowledge exchange in cellular electrophysiology. We connect European labs through joint research and visits, and support young scientists by encouraging new ideas and open discussion that drives innovation.

Working Group on Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy

Our mission is to advance cardiovascular health, by supporting all areas of cardiovascular pharmacology – from basic research and clinical trials to clinical application.

Working Group on Cardiovascular Regenerative and Reparative Medicine

We advance knowledge and develop therapies in cardiovascular regenerative and reparative medicine. We fosters global collaboration by uniting basic science and translational clinical research from leading centres worldwide.

Working Group on Cardiovascular Surgery

We promote greater interaction and cohesion between cardiac surgery and other cardiology communities, to deliver more efficient and effective patient care.

Working Group on Cellular Biology of the Heart

We unite a dynamic community of basic scientists and clinicians, we strive to identify novel therapeutic targets and drive translational research projects focused on treating heart disease.

Working Group on Coronary Pathophysiology & Microcirculation

We promote prevention and enhance the diagnosis and treatment of impaired coronary perfusion, we share expertise in coronary pathophysiology – from the large arteries to the terminal vessels.

Working Group on Development, Anatomy & Pathology

Guided by our mission to bridge scientific discovery and clinical practice, we bring together basic scientists and clinicians from diverse fields – including molecular and developmental biology, pathology, morphology, genetics, and cardiology – to champion the enduring value of clinic-pathologic correlation.

Working Group on e-Cardiology

We advance digital innovation in cardiovascular care, focusing on specialised computer methods including AI, image and signal processing, predictive modelling, e-health, mobile apps, and hospital communication systems.

Working Group on Myocardial & Pericardial Diseases

We improve diagnosis and treatment of heart muscle and pericardial disease, and promote understanding of these disorders among cardiologists, stimulating research and educational programmes throughout Europe.

Working Group on Myocardial Function

Our mission is to focus on the molecular, cellular and integrative mechanisms underlying cardiac function and dysfunction. We provide a platform for basic and clinically oriented scientists interested in all aspects of myocardial function.

Working Group on Pulmonary Circulation & Right Ventricular Function

We enhance knowledge and stimulate clinical research of pulmonary circulation and right ventricular function, and contribute to progress in basic science, translational and clinical research, plus continuing medical education.

Working Group on Thrombosis

Our mission is to enhance knowledge and stimulate clinical research of thrombosis in Europe and beyond. We contribute to promoting research, education, and best clinical practice in the field of thrombosis and haemostasis.
