Dear Members of the WG on Coronary Pathophysiology and Microcirculation,
We sincerely hope this newsletter finds you well and in good health. We never expected to write a Newsletter in the challenging and almost surrealistic situation that we find ourselves in right now. First and foremost, we send you our heartfelt wishes for good health and well-being for you and your families!
We know that among the more than 500 members of our WG, there is large number of medical specialists. We want to express to them, in particular to our youngest members, our appreciation and recognition, as they had to stop their regular research and clinical work to go to help carry the clinical workload in the setting of COVID-19!
COVID-19 has prevented us from meeting in Budapest during the Frontiers in CardioVascular Biomedicine Meeting, in which our WG had a specific symposium on “Microcirculation and Cardiovascular Risk”. Nevertheless, we want to give you here a brief update on the recent and upcoming activities of our WG.
The WG position paper on ‘Coronary microvascular dysfunction in cardiovascular disease’ has been published in the Cardiovascular Research Spotlight Issue ‘Coronary microvascular dysfunction’– and guest-edited by your WG Chair – in March. Moreover, we expect that our position paper on ‘Depression and Coronary Heart Disease’ will be published soon in European Heart Journal.
This year, we will elect several new Ordinary Nucleus Members. We would like to encourage those WG members, who are eligible according the Working Groups Governance Procedures, and who are interested in actively contributing to the WG activities, to consider submitting their candidacy for the period 2020-2022. The call for candidates will be open from 30th April to 11th May. Please don`t miss this opportunity to serve your WG! Read more about the elections.
This year again we will launch the call for the Mobility Travel Grant (MTG) during May, which will be announced in the WG’s Web-Page. Please note that MTG covers travel and accommodation costs of basic or clinic researchers in the cardiovascular sciences to work for a minimum period of 1 month in an institution in a different European Country.
As mentioned in the February Newsletter, we participate every year, as WG, in the Pre-Scope process organized by the Council on Basic Cardiovascular Science (CBCS) to generate session proposals to be submitted to the annual ESC Congress. We would like to include a variety of WG members as speakers in the session proposals. Therefore, we ask all of you to send us before the 15th May a brief biosketch, on a single page, with 5 key publications in the past 5 years, to our secretary, Teresa Padro.
Best wishes,
Prof. Dirk J. Duncker, Chairperson
Dr. Teresa Padro, Secretary
