Heart valve calcification resulting in stenosis is a prevalent disease in the aging population. Traditionally associated with inflammation, lipid accumulation, and classical cardiovascular risk factors, the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying this pathology remain relatively unaddressed. The objective of this talk is to provide an update on the epidemiology and risk conditions predisposing patients to cardiac valve pathology, and on molecular aspects of valve cells pathologic progression.
