Key take-aways

  • The world's leading cardiology experts will convene at ESC Congress 2024 in London this summer.
  • The latest developments in science, treatments and technology will be discussed, with a Spotlight theme of personalising cardiovascular care.
  • This pivotal event serves as a catalyst for shaping the future of cardiovascular medicine on a global scale, with the aim to prevent cardiovascular diseases and improve patient outcomes.

Sophia Antipolis, 17 June 2024: This summer, the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) will host the world’s largest cardiovascular congress in London. ESC Congress 2024 is where international cardiology experts convene to transform patient care and advance the field through cutting-edge research, pioneering technologies and collaborative initiatives.

Twelve Hot Line sessions will unveil the latest findings from major clinical trials, conducted to provide new and improved treatments for a range of cardiovascular diseases. Several Late-Breaking Science sessions will discuss insightful new results from important registries and basic science studies. In addition, novel findings will be revealed in more than 4,000 scientific abstracts presented by international cardiovascular healthcare professionals.

2024 marks the 30th anniversary of ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines, influential documents that are created by world-leading experts who collate the latest research to guide clinical practice across Europe and beyond. Four major ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines will be unveiled in London, and in dedicated sessions, participants will be able to discuss the new recommendations with the authors.

New ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines for 2024:

Elevated blood pressure and hypertension
Chronic coronary syndromes

Peripheral arterial and aortic diseases
Atrial fibrillation

and

Patient version of ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines for atrial fibrillation

The Spotlight of this year’s ESC Congress is ‘personalising cardiovascular care,’ which focuses on improving patient outcomes by moving away from the one-size-fits-all approach towards individualised treatment at all stages of disease development including risk prediction, preventative measures and precision treatments.

The patients voices will resound through a new track of sessions designed to ensure that their perspective is always at the forefront. In addition, another new series of sessions – the obesity track – will help participants delve deeper into one of today’s more important problems related to improving cardiovascular health.

Also new in 2024 are ‘The floor is yours’ sessions where participants can bring their questions on a range of topical issues to an open forum to stimulate shared understanding. Subjects include the risks of vaping and the regulation of medical devices.

And again this year, the Digital Health Stage will provide a platform for discussions related to the technological transformation of healthcare and implications for daily practice today and in the near future, for example, the use of artificial intelligence to optimise healthcare delivery and how innovative technology could be used to personalise heart-healthy lifestyles.

ESC Congress 2024 is not only designed for cardiologists − a special programme is dedicated to bringing the latest clinical practice updates across the spectrum of cardiology to general practitioners, nurses and allied health professionals. A complementary Clinical Implementation track focuses on the practical application of new evidence to ensure the latest findings are quickly and widely translated into clinical benefits for patients.

Cardiovascular disease is the world’s leading cause of death. By bringing the cardiology community together to discuss the latest research, ESC Congress 2024 aims to advance the field and to alleviate the impact of cardiovascular diseases now and in years to come.
