Travel to Ljubljana

Slovenia is situated in Central Europe and borders Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia - it is a couple of hours drive away from Venice and Vienna. Slovenia is easily accessible from all neighbouring countries, as it has good road and rail connections, with daily flights from many European cities.

Traveling to Ljubljana by plane is convenient thanks to Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU), the main international gateway to Slovenia. Here's how to get there and what to expect:

By Plane

Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU) is located about 25 km north of the city center and is served by a growing number of direct international flights and well-connected hub airports.

Ljubljana has direct flights to several major European cities and for long-haul travelers or cities without direct flights, you can reach Ljubljana with one-stop connections via major hubs. These connections make Ljubljana easily accessible from North America, Asia, and other parts of Europe.

Once you land, you can reach the city center in about 30–40 minutes via:

  • Taxi: Approx. €35–45

  • Shuttle Services: Shared vans to hotels or central stops (€10–15 per person)

  • Bus Line 28: Public bus (cheapest, but less frequent)

  • Private Transfer: Available for pre-booking

Taxis in Ljubljana can be ordered via the free mobile application Hopin Taxi.

From the Airport by Bus - There are several Bus and shuttle services from the airport into central Ljubljana and the surrounding area. More information is available from the Ljubljana Airport website
