Our Priorities

Reflecting a commitment to improving patient outcomes

The belief that cardiovascular health should be a right for all is at the heart of our mission. We focus on prevention, reducing inequalities across gender and geography and driving responsible innovation through digital health, artificial intelligence and sustainable practices. Our priorities reflect our commitment to improving patient outcomes, ensuring safety and protecting our shared environment.

Prevention and inequalities

Building a healthier future for every heart

Prevention remains our most powerful tool in reducing the global burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD).

The world’s biggest killer that is responsible for 32% of all global deaths.

Yet, major gaps persist across Europe and beyond – more women than men die from CVD, and stark geographic inequalities exist. At the same time, far more resources are spent treating the consequences of CVD than preventing it.

We believe cardiovascular health should not depend on gender or geography. We are committed to advancing both primary and secondary prevention through evidence-based policy, education and collaboration to create a healthier, more equitable future for every heart.

Responsible AI & digital health

Reshaping cardiovascular medicine

Digital transformation and AI are reshaping cardiovascular medicine.

We are committed to ensuring these technologies are introduced responsibly, ethically and for the benefit of patients.

Through our dedicated Digital Cardiology and Artificial Intelligence (DCAI) Committee and its roadmap pillars on our AI Hub, we promote trustworthy frameworks for AI integration in clinical and policy settings. Our experts contribute to European Union (EU)-funded projects supporting digital health innovation and provide evidence and guidance to EU bodies shaping landmark legislation such as the European Health Data Space and the EU Artificial Intelligence Act.

By fostering collaboration and building trust, we aim to ensure that digital and AI innovations deliver meaningful and fair improvements in cardiovascular outcomes.

Safeguarding health technologies

Enabling innovation while protecting patient safety

Cardiovascular health innovations can save lives, but only if they reach patients safely and efficiently.

We promote EU and global policies that enable innovation while protecting patient safety and help bridge the gap between science and regulation by connecting EU policymakers with our extensive clinical and scientific expertise. Our engagement spans medical devices, pharmaceuticals and digital health, ensuring that regulations reflect the realities of clinical practice. By advocating for a regulatory environment that fosters responsible innovation and upholds the highest standards of safety and efficacy, we collectively advance our mission to improve heart health for all.

Sustainability

Raising awareness of the environmental risks to heart health

We recognise that protecting heart health also means protecting the planet.

Environmental factors, such as air and noise pollution, are a major contributor to CVD – making sustainability a core part of cardiovascular health.

Through collaboration with international bodies and EU institutions, and the creation of a dedicated Task Force on Environmental Sustainability, we are driving change across policy, practice and our own organisation. Our aim is to raise awareness of the environmental risks to heart health, influence sustainable healthcare policy and lead by example in implementing environmentally responsible practices across the cardiovascular community.
