EU Cardiovascular Health Plan
A historic milestone for cardiovascular health
Cardiovascular health for all
Towards a European cardiovascular health plan
In December 2025, the European Commission launched the first ever European Union (EU) Cardiovascular Health initiative, the 'Safe Hearts Plan'. This historic milestone is the first time cardiovascular health is being addressed head-on at a European level and is widely welcomed across the cardiovascular community.
The European Society of Cardiology, together with partners from the European Alliance for Cardiovascular Health (EACH), has been proud to help make this vision a reality. By providing real-world evidence on the burden of cardiovascular disease and sharing the independent expertise of leading cardiovascular professionals, we continue to ensure that the voices of patients, clinicians and researchers are heard where it matters most in shaping a healthier future for all.
"We applaud the European Commission in taking this tremendous step forward for CV health in Europe. Despite being Europe’s biggest killer, representing 31% and 37% of deaths in men and women respectively, the Commission’s first dedicated plan and supporting budget is a pivotal moment for CV health for all European citizens. We call on all those who will have a role in making that plan an actionable reality to stand together, so that the Commission’s plan can start saving lives”

Supporting the EU's Safe Hearts Plan
Working together for a healthier Europe
In creating the first Cardiovascular Health Plan, the EU Commission launched a new page dedicated to cardiovascular health, as well as a call for evidence to allow stakeholders to provide feedback and insights in shaping its development.
We welcomed the opportunity to contribute, bringing together the voices, expertise and perspectives of our community to drive action.
