Dr. Alban Elouen Baruteau, France

  • Dr. Alban Elouen Baruteau graduated in 2011 from Rennes-1 University and was granted a postdoctoral research fellowship in pediatric electrophysiology in the Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at New York Presbyterian/Columbia University in New York.
  • The EHRA Academic Research Fellowship Programme enabled him to run a high-quality supervised research programme at the LIRYC Institute-CHU in Bordeaux.
  • The proposed project was both a clinical and a basic science research programme called «DISCO study», which aimed to better describe clinical/ECG characteristics and molecular mechanisms of cardiac conduction disorders and cardiac arrhythmias associated with congenital heart diseases with discordant atrio-ventricular connection.

Dr. Michiel Rienstra, Netherlands

  • Dr. Michiel Rienstra is a cardiologist at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG). His clinical work and research focus is on atrial fibrillation (AF).
  • After earning his PhD in 2007 on AF underlying diseases and prognosis of AF, he completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, the Framingham Heart Study, and studied the epidemiology and genetics of AF.
  • The overall objective of his research was to find ways to better treat and prevent AF by investigating clinical risk factors, biomarkers, and genetic variants.

2013

Academic Research Grant Training Fellowship

Mikhail Dzeshka is assistant lecturer of the 1st Department of Internal Diseases at Grodno State Medical University, Grodno, Belarus. His field of interest is cardiology, including arrhythmias, heart failure and arterial hypertension. He earned his PhD in 2012.

Dzeschka's research will focus on evaluation of possible associations between levels of circulating microparticles, diastolic dysfunction and left ventricular fibrosis in patients with atrial fibrillation and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction as well as assessment of predictive value of studied parameters for occurrence of a combined endpoint of heart failure related hospital admissions and all-cause death.

Jorge Figueroa has been working at the Allende Hospital. National University of Cordoba in Argentina from 2007 to 2011 and obtained his graduate degree in echocardiography.

He will follow his training fellowship programme on clinical electrophysiology with emphasis on catheter ablation at the LA PAZ Hospital in Madrid.
