Application process

You are required to apply exclusively through the online application form. 
To do so, please log in to your My ESC account and select "New Grant Application" in the "Grants" area.
 

Important: The EAPCI Education and Training Grant application form will be available to you in the list only if you fulfil the eligibility criteria. If you cannot access it even though you are eligible, please contact us and explain your situation. Make sure to choose the category "Associations" and Sub-category "European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI)".

You apply online by completing the application form AND uploading a single document that includes: 

  1. CV (European format)  
  2. Recommendation letter from the current supervisor or the Head of Department where the candidate works
  3. "Part B" form and/or Hosting centre pre-agreement confirmation letter (if applicable)  (*)
  4. Language certificate according to the preferred country

Important:

  • You are strongly encouraged to secure pre-approval from your chosen host centre when submitting your application. At a minimum, proof of contact with the selected centre is required. If you are selected for a grant without confirmation of a placement at that time, you will have up to one month to secure a host centre. Failure to do so will void your nomination, and the grant will be reassigned to another candidate.
  • You should verify language requirements and any additional exams to obtain permission to practice as a first operator in the Hosting centre.
  • It is highly recommended that you save all documents as a single PDF before uploading them.

Purpose of the Grant Programme

This programme offers medical graduates who have nearly completed their cardiology training but do not yet hold a permanent, senior staff, or consultant position, the opportunity to receive clinical training in interventional cardiology in an ESC member country other than their own. It promotes mobility, cultural exchange, and professional development. Training in related cardiology fields may also be considered. The grant aims to help young cardiologists gain high‑quality clinical skills and experience, enabling them to contribute to higher academic and clinical standards upon returning to their home country.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Education and Training Grant Programme, you will be asked to meet the following requirements:

  • You are citizen or permanent resident of one of the 58 ESC National Cardiac Societies, AND, whose country of work/training at the time of application is among the 58 ESC National Cardiac Societies (Refer to Appendix 1 at the end of the Rules and Regulation document for additional information)*The Belorusian Scientific Society of Cardiology and the Russian Society of Cardiology are temporarily suspended from ESC membership.
  • You are qualified cardiologist or currently in the final year of your cardiology training programme.
  • You are under 40 years of age on the day of the application deadline (31 March 2026).
  • You are member of the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI)

Please note:

  • Candidates from non-EU countries meeting the eligibility requirements in terms of residence (as per Appendix I of the EAPCI Fellowship Grant Rules and Regulations) will be required to ensure that they have health insurance to submit an application to the EAPCI Fellowship Grants programme. Applicants with doubts about their eligibility are advised to contact the EAPCI before submitting an application.
  • Important: grant allocation will be subject to visa acceptance (when needed) and compliance with all the requirements to be specified by the hosting training centre (including language level, medical license, approval of the relevant authorities, health insurance, etc.). This will be discussed during the selection process between the candidate, the EAPCI Fellowship Grants Committee and the proposed hosting training centre(s).
  • Candidates are strongly urged to read the EAPCI Fellowship Grant Rules and Regulations 2026 (last updated in January 2026) before applying.

Important:   

Final validation of the application is subject to visa acceptance (when needed) and compliance with European Union Directive 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualifications (if applicable).

Selection criteria

Evaluation will focus on your career and scientific achievements, motivation, training project, post‑grant career plans, expected impact, and experience in interventional cardiology (structural and/or coronary).
You are encouraged to propose a clinical fellowship project aligned with your main field of interest.
Preference will be given to candidates who:

Have not previously received a competitive award or grant.
Have not received grants outside the European Society of Cardiology or its constituent bodies.

If you have already received a grant from the European Society of Cardiology or any of its constituent bodies (Association, Working Group, or Council), you are not eligible.
You may apply to multiple European Society of Cardiology training or research grant programmes, but you cannot receive more than one. If selected by more than one programme, you will be required to choose.

Tenure

• Grant duration: 12 months (shorter periods are not accepted).
• The training is expected to begin after the full application process is completed and formal confirmation is received from EAPCI — between 1 September 2026 and 15 February 2027.
• Non‑EU applicants may be granted extra time to complete visa procedures and obtain certified translations of their medical degree and required language certificates.

Level of support

Grant amount: €26,865 to cover living expenses, paid directly to the recipient(not to the training centre).
The amount is paid in three instalments:

45% at the start of the programme
45% upon receipt of the mid‑term report, submitted 6 months after the start date
10% upon receipt of the final report
