Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a genetically driven myocardial disorder characterised by left ventricular hypertrophy, yet a growing body of research highlights a diverse group of conditions that mimic its phenotype – commonly referred to as “HCM phenocopies”. These conditions, ranging from infiltrative and storage diseases to metabolic and neuromuscular disorders, often present with similar clinical and imaging features but require distinct diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. This volume 12 explores the spectrum of HCM phenocopies, delving into their genetic underpinnings, and evolving diagnostic tools with the contribution of Professor Ruxandra Jurcut (Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases C.C. Iliescu, Bucharest, Romania) and Professor Juan Kaski (University College London and Great Ormond Street Hospital, UK). By distinguishing these conditions from primary HCM, we aim to enhance clinical awareness, ensuring accurate diagnosis and targeted management strategies for improved patient outcomes.
