ACVC Rules of Governance: eligibility criteria
As announced during the ACVC General Assembly held in March 2024, rules of governance have now replaced the ACVC constitution (validated by the ESC Board on 25 August 2023). ESC Associations rules of governance are included in Annex V of the ESC Bylaws, approved by ESC Board in December 2024, and subject to some potential changes in July 2025 (as a result of a two-year review as approved by 2022-2024 ESC Board).
Additionally, the ESC has approved the change of ACVC mandate timelines which will now run from ESC Congress 2026 to ESC Congress 2028, aligning with the ESC mandate.
The ACVC election application process and voting will be carried out in accordance with these bylaws.
Who can apply
Only ACVC members originating from an ESC member Country with an active ACVC membership and in good standing, holding voting rights at the date of the opening of the call for applications, are eligible to become a Board or Nominating Committee member.
Voting right
The minimum seniority for ACVC Members to obtain voting rights is 6 months before the opening of the call for application. Only ACVC Members having settled their membership dues by 02/09/2025 (i.e.: 6 months before the call for candidates opening on 02/03/2026) and with a valid membership subscription at the time the voting starts (19/05/2026) will have voting rights.
Application Process
Applications will open on 02/03/2026 open and must be submitted by 13/04/2026 23:59 CET.
- All candidates have to sign the 2026 ACVC elections statement and to submit their Declaration of Interest (DOI) prior to the start of the elections process. If this requirement is not fulfilled, the candidate will not be accepted.
- Candidates for the position of President Elect must be a member in good standing of one of the ESC National Societies of Cardiology and a FESC, currently serving or have served in the immediate previous ACVC Board or in the pre-previous Board as voting or appointed members. The elected candidate will automatically become President two years later.
- Candidates for the positions of Secretary and Treasurer must be currently serving or have served on a previous or current full Board or as previous Committee member, Committee Chair, Committee Co-Chair or Coordinator.
- An ACVC Board member may not hold more than three leadership positions at the same time. Sitting on the nucleus of an ESC Working Group or Council or Association is counted as one leadership position. A candidate who already holds three offices may therefore not stand for election or be proposed as a candidate, except if one of its term of office expires before the new function starts.
- Ex-officio Board members are eligible for elected ACVC Board positions, under the condition that they held another position (not as ex-officio) in previous mandates as described herein.
Individuals not eligible
• Representatives and employees from healthcare industry companies are not eligible to ACVC Board positions and Nominating committee positions.
