ESC Working Group on Coronary Pathophysiology & Microcirculation

Dear Members,

We hope you are all healthy and thriving.

Hopefully you are as pleased as we are that COVID-19 restrictions are greatly reduced now and we are back on track with events.

From 29 April to 1 May, Budapest provided an exceptional background for FCVB 2022, which was organised by the ESC Council on Basic Cardiovascular Science in collaboration with ESC Working Groups and sister societies. This event was an opportunity to meet in person again and discuss the latest science on basic and translational cardiovascular biomedicine. Our working group contributed two excellent joint sessions:

These were presented with the participation of selected members of the WG as invited speakers and chairpersons. In addition, we contributed to several other sessions and had the opportunity to present and discuss our scientific work.

Looking ahead, we hope you will join us at ESC Congress 2022, taking place in Barcelona and online, from 26 to 29 August.

Online voting for ordinary nucleus members for the 2022–2024 ESC Working Groups elections will be open 13–30 June. In order to be eligible to vote, please renew your free membership if for any reason you haven’t already done so. Just sign into your My ESC account, go to My Membership and select ‘Manage’.

Finally in this issue of the newsletter, Prof. Daniela Trifunovic Zamaklar (Asst. Professor and Research Associate, School of Medicine, University of Belgrade) comments on the paper “Prevalence and prognostic significance of microvascular dysfunction in heart failure With preserved ejection fraction”. This article provides novel insights on the endotyping and phenotyping on HFpEF. Read the full comment.

Stay tuned for our next newsletter to find out about more working groups activities before ESC Congress 2022 in Barcelona!

On behalf of the ESC Working Groups nucleus,

Dimitris Tousoulis, Chairperson 2020–2022
Marija Vavlukis, Communication Coordinator 2020–2022
