By Bus
To access KU Leuven by bus, most local buses depart from Leuven Railway Station, the main hub for city buses. The city is served by De Lijn, the regional public transport company in Flanders, with common lines such as 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7 connecting the city center and surrounding areas to various university faculties. Tickets can be purchased on the bus with cash or a contactless card, or via the De Lijn app, with a single adult ticket within Leuven costing around €3–€4. Most buses stop near major KU Leuven buildings, such as the Faculty of Science, Library, or University Hall, from which it is only a short walk to the campus.
By Taxi
From Brussels Airport, proceed to Level 0, where the official taxi rank is located outside the terminal. Signs throughout the airport clearly indicate “Taxis.” Once there, you can choose between a standard taxi, which is readily available and typically costs €50–€60 depending on traffic and the exact drop-off point, or a private transfer, which can be pre-booked through services like TOMI TAXI Airport or City Airport Taxis at fixed rates ranging from €55–€75; pre-booking is particularly recommended for late arrivals to ensure availability. The journey to Leuven usually takes 20–30 minutes, depending on traffic, and should be directed to KU Leuven’s main campus.
By Car from Leuven City Center
Most university buildings are within walking distance, but cars can be used to reach campuses farther from the center.
Parking
KU Leuven offers several parking options for visitors and staff across its campuses. University-operated parking facilities include Parking Ladeuze, located near the city center and main libraries, and Parking Rector De Somerplein, close to the central administrative buildings. The Gasthuisberg Campus provides parking primarily for university hospitals and medical faculties, while street parking is available throughout Leuven, although it is often limited, with time restrictions and fees applying in most areas. For those wishing to avoid city traffic, Leuven also has Park & Ride (P+R) facilities at the outskirts, offering free or low-cost parking with convenient bus connections into the city center.
