ESC Working Group on e-Cardiology

Dear members of the ESC Working Group on e-Cardiology,

It is with great pleasure that I send you an update on the activities of our working group (WG) along with a selection of recommended readings on various topics. A New Year has risen with the hope that the vaccination programme, that has already started, will release the entire planet from the dreadful pandemic.

Since all in-person European meeting are cancelled for at least the first months of 2021, EHRA 2021 is transformed to an online congress which will take place from 23 to 25 April. An innovative online experience is expected to replace our in-person EHRA Congress. Best abstracts from those submitted within the topic of e-cardiology/ digital health will be selected and presented during an online “Best oral e-Cardiology Award session”. All finalists will be granted a free congress registration for EHRA 2021 and EHRA 2022.

Two important online congresses, ESC Acute CardioVascular Care (13-14 March 2021) and ESC Preventive Cardiology (15-17 April 2021) are expected to provide the best opportunities for education and knowledge dissemination in the respective scientific fields.

The inaugural issue of the new European Heart Journal - Digital Health was published in November 2020 and proved to be an excellent initiative that is going to highlight, disseminate and support the digitalisation of cardiovascular care. The European Heart Journal - Digital Health is an Open Access, peer-reviewed journal, with a specific focus on digital health in cardiovascular medicine, connecting physicians with biomedical engineers, researchers, and allied health professionals. The journal advances excellence in digital health through the publication of high-quality original preclinical and clinical research, reviews, points of view, images and short reports. Attractive features such as video abstracts and audio commentaries are also effective.

On behalf of the entire WG Nucleus, I would like to express our warmest wishes for a healthy, happy & prosperous year 2021.

Polychronis Dilaveris, MD, PhD, FESC
Chairperson ESC WG on e-Cardiology 2020-2022
