ESC Working Group on Coronary Pathophysiology and Microcirculation at ESC Congress 2022

Dear Members,

The ESC Congress 2022 in Barcelona is now behind us. It was really an extraordinary onsite and online event meeting that many of us attended onsite and had the great opportunity to reconnect face-to-face after the pandemic with colleagues and old friends, as well as to make new ones.

During the congress, four members of the working group (Profs. D. Duncker, T. Guzik, D. Tousoulis and T. Padro) participated once more as jury of the Young Investigator Award on Coronary Pathophysiology and Microcirculation. During the session, chaired by D. Tousoulis and T. Padro, the four finalists - Drs. Hojstrup, Scarsini, Gallinoro and Smits - presented their excellent studies, and we are happy to congratulate all of them and in particular Dr. Roberto Scarsini, who was awarded for his work "Coronary microvascular dysfunction is associated with reduced cardiac performance in low flow low gradient aortic stenosis".

Nucleus members have actively contributed to symposiums and sessions:

  • As speakers: Prof I. Fleming/Biomarkers and radiomics in ACS, Genetic and epigenetics modifications in cardiac disorders; Prof E. Eringa /Perivascular adipose tissue; Prof. D Dunker /Noninvasive testing for endotelial function; Prof E. Cenko /New insights into sex differences in ACS
  • As chairs: Prof T. Padro /Cardiovascular disease in women; Prof. D. Tousoulis /ACS, vulnerabile plaques and complex PCI; Prof. O. Manfrini/ Meet the experts: Medical treatment for CCS
  • As ePoster presenters and contributors: E. Cenko, T. Padro, O. Manfrini, M. Vlalukis, A. Djordjevic Dikic, M. Bergami, G. De Luca /Cardiovascular risk and biomarkers, modifiable risk factors, STEMI and outcome, congenital heart disease and heart disese in woman, Covid-19 and AHF, atrial myopathy with reumatoid arthritis EDRA study, noninvasive functional testing in ANOCA, LBBB and invasive testing in myocardial bridge

During the EuroThrombosis & EuroVessels 2022 meeting, to be held on 20-22 October 2022 in Lisbon, Portugal, our working group will actively contribute through a joint session on “Coronary Microcirculatory Dysfunction” with Profs. D. Duncker and T. Padro as invited speakers.

We hope you enjoy learning more from all of the working group's contributions to ESC Congress 2022!

On behalf of the ESC Working Group on Coronary Pathophysiology and Microcirculation Nucleus,

Teresa Padro, Chairperson 2022-2024
Ana Djordjevic Dikic, Communication Coordinator 2022-2024
