ESC Working Group on Atherosclerosis & Vascular Biology

Dear members of the ESC Working Group on Atherosclerosis and Vascular Biology,

Fist of all, we wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous 2022!

Despite the fact that the Covid-19 pandemic is still affecting our professional and personal life, we were able to keep the working group productive throughout the year of 2021. In particular, we organized a successful online event dedicated to sex and gender in atherosclerosis, which brought together international experts in the field. We also contributed to a position paper in collaboration with the ESC Working Group on Pulmonary Circulation and Right Ventricular Function, recently published in the European Heart Journal. This position paper provides a comprehensive guide for the follow-up of patients with acute pulmonary embolism.

The new year finds us excited about the Frontiers in CardioVascular Biomedicine Congress (FCVB 2022), which will be held in Budapest, Hungary, from April 29 to May 1, 2022. Thanks to our Working Group's contribution to the program, several sessions will be dedicated to topics that will be of great interest to our Members. This conference will provide an excellent opportunity for you to promote your research findings and meet your Working Group’s nucleus members in person in a friendly atmosphere.

Magnus Bäck (Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden), who chaired our Working Group from 2018 to 2020, comments for our readers on his excellent paper "GPR32 is a receptor for omega-3 derived lipid mediators transducing a resolution of atherosclerotic inflammation," which is published in the prestigious Journal of Clinical Investigation. This study shed light on mechanisms underlying the resolution of inflammation in atherosclerosis. In addition, we share with our members recommended readings, all of which include interesting new findings in the field of vascular biology.

On behalf of the Nucleus Members of the Working Group on Atherosclerosis and Vascular Biology, stay safe and see you in Budapest!
