ESC Working Group on Myocardial Function

Dear Members of the Working Group Myocardial Function

These are strange times. In the middle of the Corona pandemia, many of us are affected either with lab shutdowns, but some as I know also directly form the disease or with their families. Our wishes and hopes go to all heavily impacted by COVID19. You have seen many papers and reviews about implications for CV disease. These are at least 2-fold. ACE2-dependent mechanisms and potential harm of ACE inhibitors are strongly debated and initiated many new research approaches. Second, due to hospital overloads, many “normal” CV diseases are overseen and door-to-balloon times for our infarcted patients have increased strongly. This will impact the development of even more heart failure cases in the future. So, research in CVD is more important than ever! The WG Myocardial Function has continued to work hard together via virtual meetings and initiated new position papers.

Again, I personally wish you all the best and that we can go back to normal life rather soon!

Stay healthy and keep your good mood!

Yours

Thomas Thum, Chairperson
