Message from the Chairperson of the ESC Working Group on Cellular Biology of the Heart

Dear Members,

For many of us, the scientific congresses and meetings of the ESC are some of the highlights in our work calendars, and a great opportunity to catch up and meet with friends and colleagues, in addition to hearing the latest cardiovascular research. Unfortunately, it seems we will not be able to meet in person for some time yet, however there are still excellent opportunities to keep us with our education. In this regard, our working group are planning an educational webinar on exosomes and the cardiovascular system with some top researchers in the field. This webinar, “Exosomes – what are they and how can they benefit ischaemic heart disease?” is scheduled on Tuesday 23 February 2021, with presentations from Prof. Joost Sluijter, Assoc Prof. Lucio Barile, and Prof. Philippe Menasché. It will be a great way to get up to speed with everything you need to know about exosomes, and the latest basic and translational research being undertaken in this area. Keep an eye out for when it is advertised in the new year. Following that, we are planning a second webinar, which will be on another highly important topic for the heart - mitochondria. In the meantime, I hope you have a relaxing and pleasant time during the Christmas vacation, and let’s all hope that, with the promise of vaccines on the horizon, life will return to normal some-time next year and we will be able to meet again.

On behalf of the Working Group nucleus,

Sean Davidson, Chairperson 2020-2022
