Dear Members,
Although we are still confronted with consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic that holds us already for 1.5 years, light appear in the end of the tunnel. Infection rates are stabilized but most importantly, hospitalizations and death are going down in vaccinated individuals. Let us hope that slowly our scientific lives will return to normal in which both hybrid and physical interactions will provide fruitful collaborations.
After an energy-boost due to a summer break, many of us have really enjoyed the digital experiences at the annual ESC2021 meeting, where new insights and breakthroughs have been presented and discussed. As many of you, we also hope that we can meet and interact at next years’ meeting face-to-face, but we were very pleased with the winners of our CARE awards at the annual ESC meeting:
- Mr Pim van Gorp (Leiden University Medical Center, Leiden, the Netherlands): “Transcriptome analysis of conditionally immortalized atrial myocytes: identification of a novel atrium-enriched protein involved in sarcomere assembly and maintenance”
- Mr Shafeeq Ahmed Mohammed University of Zurich, Zurich, Switzerland: “Pharmacological blockade of histone methyltransferase SETD7 restores angiogenic response in experimental diabetes”
At the moment, the first discussions start on how and when we can restart to organize new future events. To fuel new inspirations and give some important highlights, we provide you with some interesting reads.
On behalf of the Working Group nucleus,
Stefan Janssens, Chairperson 2020-2022
