ESC Working Group on Atherosclerosis & Vascular Biology

Dear members of the ESC Working Group on Atherosclerosis and Vascular Biology,

Hope you are all fine and that the sun is finally shining in all your countries now!

We are aware that own homepage and newsletter have been a bit inactive and we are now hoping to revive it. You might wonder who we are so maybe you can recognise us from the photo:

From the upper left, Esther Lutgens, Isabel Goncalves and Marie-Luce Piallat.

On lower left, Luca Liberale and Claudia Monaco.

Claudia Göttsch is unfortunately missing from the photo this time.

This letter is for YOU so do send me input (subject: For newsletter) that we can publish here if you have information that you think is relevant for the Working Group Members.

Among all the amazing studies being continuously published we have selected some for you here (even though the choice was not easy):

  • The RNA editor ADAR2 promotes immune cell trafficking by enhancing endothelial responses to interleukin-6 during sterile inflammation. Immunity. DOI: 10.1016/j.immuni.2023.03.021
  • Genetic analyses identify brain structures related to cognitive impairment associated with elevated blood pressure. Eur Heart J. DOI: 10.1093/eurheartj/ehad101
  • Inflammation and cholesterol as predictors of cardiovascular events among patients receiving statin therapy: a collaborative analysis of three randomised trials. Lancet. DOI: 10.1016/S0140-6736(23)00215-5
  • Immobility-associated thromboprotection is conserved across mammalian species from bear to human. Science. DOI: 10.1126/science.abo5044
  • 2023 Update on European Atherosclerosis Society Consensus Statement on Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolaemia: new treatments and clinical guidance. Eur Heart J. DOI: 10.1093/eurheartj/ehad197
  • JCAD promotes arterial thrombosis through PI3K/Akt modulation: a translational study. Eur Heart J. DOI: 10.1093/eurheartj/ehac641
  • Neutrophil-Derived Protein S100A8/A9 Alters the Platelet Proteome in Acute Myocardial Infarction and Is Associated With Changes in Platelet Reactivity. ATVB. DOI: 10.1161/ATVBAHA.121.317113
  • Pairing of single-cell RNA analysis and T cell antigen receptor profiling indicates breakdown of T cell tolerance checkpoints in atherosclerosis. Nat Cardiovasc Res. DOI: 10.1038/s44161-023-00218-w
  • Vascular calcification maladaptively participates in acute phosphate homeostasis. Cardiovasc Res. DOI: 10.1093/cvr/cvac162
  • Hyperlipidaemia elicits an atypical, T helper 1-like CD4+ T-cell response: a key role for very low-density lipoprotein. Eur Heart J Open. DOI: 10.1093/ehjopen/oead013
  • DOT1L regulates lipid biosynthesis and inflammatory responses in macrophages and promotes atherosclerotic plaque stability. Cell Rep. DOI: 10.1016/j.celrep.2022.111703

We are thinking about launching a LinkedIn group in June/July  that hopefully will bring a smile in your face, some inspiration and more information for those interested in atherosclerosis. We will get back on this soon!

If you are looking for a new job, consider this one in Switzerland!

Finally, a heads up for the upcoming exciting Gordon Conference on atherosclerosis, this year in Spain.

Looking forwards to seeing you all in August at ESC Congress in Amsterdam!

Yours sincerely,

Isabel and Esther
