EHRA Joint Registries and Trials

EHRA undertakes, and in some cases, supports registries & surveys

European Lead Extraction ConTRolled Registry - ELECTRa Registry

European Lead Extraction Controlled Registry (ELECTRa) is the first large, prospective, multi-centre, European-controlled registry of consecutive patients undergoing Transvenous Lead Extraction (TLE) procedures.  Recruitment of patients began in November 2012 and ended in May 2014 with a follow-up phase at one year. Preliminary results on TLE in Europe was presented during the 2014 ESC Congress in Barcelona, the EHRA EUROPACE - CARDIOSTIM 2015 meeting in Milan, and at the 2015 ESC Congress in London.

Epicardial/Hybrid Atrial Fibrillation Ablation Registry (EHAFAR)

This is a centre-based registry, initiated in collaboration with the EURObservational Research Programme. It aims at enrolling 750 patients.  The objectives are to describe the clinical epidemiology of patients undergoing an EHAFA procedure, diagnostic/therapeutic processes applied in these patients across Europe, short and long-term outcomes and their predictors.  The centres have just started enrolling patients in this registry. All centres performing EHAFA procedures are welcome to join.

Early Comprehensive Atrial Fibrillation Stroke Prevention Trial (EAST)

Early Comprehensive Atrial Fibrillation Stroke Prevention Trial (EAST) is a European, investigator-initiated study jointly conducted by AFNET and EHRA.  The trial is supported by a unique partnership including Sanofi Aventis and St Jude Medical, receiving further funding from the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) through the German Centre for Heart Research (DZHK).

Its aims are to determine whether early, standardised, rhythm control intervention can help prevent adverse cardiovascular outcomes associated with atrial fibrillation, including stroke and death.  At the end of 2015, over 2 350 patients were enrolled in 11 European countries. We expect to continue enrolment until early 2016.

Atrial Fibrillation Ablation Registry

This is a registry initiated by the EURObservational Research Programme.

The main objective of this registry is to describe the clinical epidemiology of patients undergoing an Atrial Fibrillation Ablation (AFA) procedure, and the diagnostic/therapeutic processes (including technical aspects, ways to measure the success of the procedure and acute and chronic outcomes/complications of the procedure) applied in these patients.

Atrial Fibrillation General Registry

This is a registry initiated by the EURObservational Research Programme.

Given the advances in Atrial Fibrillation (AF) management and the availability of new ESC guidelines, there is a need for the systematic collection of contemporary data regarding the management and treatment of AF in the member ESC countries.  It is now nearly 10 years since the last European registry of AF management was undertaken (as part of the ESC EuroHeart Survey programme), and a new registry was needed.

This is a registry initiated by the EURObservational Research Programme.

This registry will start enrolment in spring, 2018. All 56 ESC member countries have been invited to join and centres wishing to take part should contact their National Cardiac Society.
