2021 Viviane Conraads Award winner: Stefano Caselli

Read why he was selected by the EAPC Research Committee and what this award means to him.

With the Viviane Conraads Outstanding Achievement Award for established researchers, the EAPC honors a colleague for outstanding accomplishments in the field of preventive cardiology in the early stage of their career.

This year's winner is Dr. Stefano Caselli. He is a clinical cardiologist at the Hirslanden Cardiovascular Center in Zurich, Switzerland, where he specialises in sports cardiology and cardiovascular imaging.

The view of the Research Committee

Prof. Emeline Van Craenenbroeck, Chair of the EAPC Research Committee, explains what convinced the members of the committee to choose Stefano Caselli among a list of excellent applicants:

“Dr. Caselli recently established himself as independent investigator in the field cardiovascular adaptations in athletes and in research into athletes with cardiovascular disease. I was lucky enough to work under Viviane Conraads myself. I am convinced that the talent and enthusiasm of Dr. Caselli would not have gone unnoticed by her. Stefano has been a highly productive member of the EAPC with an excellent contribution to several position and guideline papers. His sustained and outstanding productivity are successful ingredients for a future as key opinion leader in sports cardiology. We hope that this award will stimulate him to carry on this huge endeavor.“

Furthermore, this award represents an important goal after a long and exciting journey that led me to face important challenges, travel unexplored paths, overcome obstacles and failures, and collaborate with fantastic colleagues from all over the world. All this was possible only through a great commitment, an inexhaustible thirst to learn and thanks to the support of great mentors. I am humbled and proud to receive this recognition and I express all my gratitude to the Association."

Stefano Caselli gave his acceptance speech at the closing session of ESC Preventive Cardiology 2021.
