Call for Editor in Chief – European Journal of Preventive Cardiology

The European Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation (EACPR) is seeking a new Editor-in-Chief for its influential journal.

The European Journal of Preventive Cardiology (EJPC) embraces all the scientific, clinical and public health disciplines that address the causes and prevention of cardiovascular disease, as well as cardiovascular rehabilitation and exercise physiology. It is the official journal of the European Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation, a registered branch of the European Society of Cardiology.  

On average, 600 submissions are received each year. With a rejection rate of 80%, 120 papers are published each year in EJPC. (18 Issues / Year - Impact Factor 2015 = 3.361)


  • Clear strategic view on the future direction and impact of the Journal

  • Knowledge of international journal ratings, parameters of esteem and citation metrics
  • Willingness to actively promote the profile, impact and position of the European Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation
  • Firm understanding of the ESC and other stakeholders in the international arena of Preventive Cardiology
  • Ability to master a global network of key opinion leaders in Preventive Cardiology and access international organizations, including private partners, fostering the field of Preventive Cardiology and Global Cardiovascular Health
  • Business skills to ensure the financial viability and growth of the economic resources of the Journal
  • Ability to prioritize and select the best options in tactical and strategic choices to promote the global reach of the Journal and the quality of its content.

Role and responsibilities

  • Managing the editorial board and editorial office, to ensure an effective and rapid peer review
  • Maintaining effective and productive relationships with the publisher and publisher’s staff
  • Making editorial decisions with reasonable speed and communicating them in a clear and constructive manner
  • Assigning papers for review appropriate to each editor’s area of interest and expertise, at a reasonable frequency that does not overtax any one editor
  • Overseeing the peer review process to ensure that all manuscripts considered for publication are evaluated fairly, confidentially, and promptly
  • Establishing criteria and a process for screening and reviewing of submissions to ensure the highest quality of accepted papers
  • Establishing clear guidelines for authors regarding acceptable practices for sharing experimental materials and information, and for preparing and submitting manuscripts
  • Providing a clear statement of the Journal’s policies on authorship criteria, and developing processes to ensure that they are met
  • Developing mechanisms, in cooperation with the publisher, to ensure timely publication of accepted manuscripts
    Establishing and defining policies on conflicts of interest for all involved in the publication process, including editors, staff (e.g. editorial and sales), authors, and reviewers
  • Maintaining the journal’s internal integrity (e.g. corrections/errata, retractions, supplemental data, and promotional material or advertising; identifying published material with proper references)


Initial term is 3 years (1st Jan 2017 – 31st Dec 2020), renewable for 2 years, twice.
