Basic Echocardiography Course

From physics to anatomy, including assessment of heart chambers and valvular structures

The European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) widens the portfolio of educational  products offered to its members by providing this basic online echocardiography course.

With this illustrated basic course, the EACVI Board Members seek to present an easy and fruitful instrument in echocardiography education. Theoretical knowledge about transthoracic echocardiography, along with some practical comments, is presented in a convincing, self-explanatory fashion.

The slide format overcomes the limitation of conventional echo books that present only static figures, keeping in mind that the main distinguishing factor of echocardiography is its ability to show the heart and blood flow in motion. The presentation is a huge opera consisting of 1,062 slides and 857 videos subdivided into 16 chapters covering all basic echocardiography topics from physics to anatomy, including assessment of heart chambers and valvular structures.

The complete basic echocardiography course consists of 16 slide sets (chapters) with the following themes

The association is pleased to provide you with access to four chapters for free:

The EACVI basic echocardiography course includes 12 more chapters available for EACVI Silver Members and FEACVI.

Summary

The EACVI offers an international accreditation for competence in documenting transthoracic echocardiography in adults. This accreditation procedure includes a written examination testing theoretical and practical issues of echocardiography.

This course also offers EACVI Members information about the basics of transthoracic echocardiography –  i.e. the content of the catalogue checked in the written examination.

The basic online echocardiography course has been developed by Prof. Andreas Hagendorff, and its content has been reviewed by Dr. Madalina Garbi on behalf of the EACVI education committee.
