Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA)

Resources by topic selected by ACVC

Experts' Introduction

Treatment of the out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patient remains a challenge from the very incident in the prehospital area to the rehabilitation after the event.

It is therefore an obvious focus area for the ACVC. Awareness campaigns and resuscitation courses for lay persons in conjunction with media campaigns have undoubtedly increased resuscitation attempts.

Furthermore, prehospital as well as in-hospital treatment has been improved over the last two decades, but mortality and morbidity remain high, with only approximately 1 in 10 surviving to hospital discharge.

Guideline recommended in-hospital interventions such as rapid revascularisation and targeted temperature management is very important, but we must do better.

ACVC will continue to promote research and deliver education in this arena. Our journal the EHJ-ACVC will therefore in the very near future have a focused issue on the OHCA patient including a ACVC position paper on cardiac arrest centres.
