In this document the term Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) is used to describe all vascular sites, including carotid, vertebral, mesenteric, renal, upper and lower extremities vessels. Diseases of the aorta are not covered. Although different disease processes may cause PAD, the Task Force decided to focus on atherosclerosis. Other aetiologies, specific for different vascular territories, are mentioned but not discussed.
