on Valvular Heart Disease

Valvular heart disease (VHD) remains a major contributor to patient morbidity and mortality. VHD also represents one of the most dynamic fields in cardiovascular medicine.

Advances in diagnostic techniques and algorithms for VHD assessment are evolving, oftentimes requiring multimodality approaches.

Indications and choice of intervention for patients suffering from VHD should be assessed within a multidisciplinary Heart Team in specialised heart valve centres, using a patient-centered approach.

This month, ESC FOCUS brings practical resources to help you understand and implement the 2025 ESC / EACTS Guidelines for the management of valvular heart disease. Essential for clinical practice, these guidelines provide a pragmatic, clinician-friendly roadmap for the diagnosis and treatment of VHD patients.

The content below was selected by Ronen Beeri, Michael Borger, Maria Generosa Crespo-Leiro and Fabien Praz to help you delve into the various aspects of valvular heart disease.
