Cardiovascular risk in non-cardiac surgery

The ESC Guidelines on cardiovascular assessment and management of patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery were recently presented at ESC Congress 2022.

These guidelines revise and update those published in 2014.

The 2022 guidelines draw a broad spectrum of assessment and care for cardiac patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery, and put the emphasis on risk assessment of the patient combined with the inherent risk of the surgical procedure. Practical recommendations on pre-operative assessment, peri-operative care and post-operative follow-up are contained in this document.

The content below aims to help you gain a better understanding of the updated guidelines, and expand your understanding of pre-, peri- and post-operative care and follow-up for planned and urgent surgical procedures.
