Focus on
Learning Objective 1:
Aims
The student should be able to decide the best reperfusion strategy for a patient given a whole set of clinical symptoms and signs
Objectives
- Can decide is a patient should undergo a primary PCI or a fibrinolysis strategy
- Decide the best strategy in patients presenting with typical chest pain and non diagnostic ECG
- Choose the best antithrombotic regimen for a patient undergoing fibrinolysis
- Identify which patients should undergo an urgent coronary angiography after a resuscitated out of hospital cardiac arrest
- Select the best timing for an elective coronary angiography after a successful fibrinolysis
- Identify which patients should receive routine oxygen therapy
Learning Objective 2:
Aims
The student will be able to identify the best PCI technique/strategy aspects for a patient undergoing a primary PCI
Objectives
- Can decide which antithrombotic regimen to implement according to patient´s individual characteristics
- Choose the arterial access route according to patient´s individual characteristics and operator´s experience
- type of stent according to according to patient´s individual characteristics
- Identify when a non-infarct related artery with a significant stenosis should be treated
- Select cases that benefit from routine thrombus aspiration and/or deferred stenting
Learning Objective 3:
Aims
The student will be able to identify the best practice in terms of hospital care logistics and risk assessment
Objectives
- Determine the duration of continuous electrocardiographic/telemetry monitoring
- Determine the length of stay in a cardiac coronary care unit/intensive cardiac care unit according to the patient´s characteristics
- Choose which patients can be discharged early after STEMI
- Identify which imaging techniques should be used during hospital stay and after discharge according to the patient´s characteristics
- Identify which patients should be included in a cardiac rehabilitation programs and the best timing of implementation
Learning Objective 4:
Aims
The student will be able to identify long-term medications and duration of treatment for STEMI patients
Objectives
- Determine the best maintenance antithrombotic regimen according to patient´s characteristics (including patients taking oral anticoagulation)
- Identify which patients should receive beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors/ARBs and/or mineralocorticoid/aldosterone receptor antagonists
- Determine the length of stay in a cardiac coronary care unit/intensive cardiac care unit according to the patient´s characteristics
- Identify which patients should receive additional lipid-lowering therapies on top of high statin regimen
