Summary

Gathering more than 20 experts from the Heart Failure Association and the ESC Working Group on Myocardial Function with the aim of developing a HFA Position Statement on the Pathophysiology of Takotsubo syndrome.

Knowledge of the pathophysiology of Takotsubo syndrome is limited.

This topic was only covered in a very limited manner in the 2016 HFA Takotsubo Syndrome Position Statement. Both the Myocardial Function group and the HFA Takotsubo study group have independently identified this as an important scientific topic and aim to help guide future research and clinical trial strategies.
