Reflecting on two years of "Paper of the Month"

The "Paper of the Month" was created in part as a response to the shutdown of in-person meetings due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Then, in its early stages, it facilitated another avenue of communication between the members of the WGT.

Each month, a notable recent and relevant paper is chosen from the thrombosis literature by a junior member of the WGT, who summarises and produces a short commentary. This is then greatly complemented by a second commentary, written by a senior WGT member.

The viewpoints can be compared, contrasted and used to gain great insight into the paper’s importance and implications for the field. I have had the honour of choosing and commenting on two papers since the scheme launched, finding it a very enriching experience.

The papers I have commented on are of clinical interest, but other colleagues have focussed on more basic science-orientated topics. Dr Heleen van Beusekom, Communications Officer for the WGT, should be credited with launching and maintaining such an enlightening series.
