General Cancellation Information
Why has the congress been cancelled?
The ESC and EAPC leadership have been following closely the rapid spread of COVID-19 and its impact. Increasingly severe measures are being put in place to limit the spread of the virus as physicians and hospitals deal with a pandemic.
More than 50% of our congress faculty has informed us that they will be unable to attend. With so many of you on the front lines of the current health crisis, we know you have other priorities and we offer our support and solidarity to all of you.
Given our inability to assure a faculty presence, coupled with more elaborate restrictions in Spain, and of course the health of our faculty, delegates and staff, cancelling our congress is the only responsible course of action.
Will the congress be postponed to a later date?
No, the congress is cancelled.
Where can I find the official statement of cancellation?
Will my registration fee be refunded?
Your registration fee will be refunded in full as soon as possible. We recognise the disappointment and inconvenience this has caused, and we are waiving our normal reimbursement rules.
How, when and where will I be refunded for my registration fee?
You will be automatically refunded on the credit card you used to register. In case the payment was done by bank transfer you can add the bank details in your MY ESC account. Note that the registration will only be refunded to the account used for the payment of your registration.
How should I apply for cancellation/refund?
You do not need to apply, your registration will be automatically cancelled and refunded.
I cancelled my participation to the congress before it was officially suspended. Will I be eligible for a refund?
If you cancelled your participation to the congress before the official cancellation was announced, you will need to provide an official document stating that you were unable to attend due to travel restrictions. Please send this by email.
I benefited from free registration as a student, will it be transferred to the next edition?
The 2020 free registrations will not be transferred. Students will be invited to apply again in 2021.
Transportation and Hotels
I am a presenter. Are there any actions to take in order to get reimbursed for the costs related to my travel/accommodation?
The ESC will not refund individual airline ticket costs. Please contact your airline directly regarding ticket cancellations and your hotel or booking agent regarding your accommodation. If you purchased travel insurance, you should contact your provider for information and next steps.
I am an invited member or faculty. Will the ESC cancel my flights and hotels or should I do it myself?
If the ESC reserved your flight and/or hotel, we will cancel these on your behalf. No action is required on your part. If you booked your flight and/or hotel yourself, please contact your airline and booking agent directly.
Can I withdraw my science and submit it elsewhere?
Yes. Kindly notify us so we can log this information on your abstract.
Will my abstract still be published and where?
The publication is linked to presentation at a congress. We, therefore, at this time, cannot inform you about potential publication.
I am an abstract presenter. Can I submit my abstract to another event?
Yes, If you wish to submit to another event, kindly notify us so we can log this information on your abstract.
Will industry partners be refunded for their participation?
As per our sales terms and conditions, the ESC will refund sums paid by industry partners for contractual commitments less 25% for administrative fees. For any queries regarding refunds, please contact us.
Will the General Assembly be postponed?
The next EAPC General Assembly will be held at ESC Congress 2020.
I bought my membership at the same time as my congress registration. Will I be reimbursed the full amount?
We encourage you to keep your membership with its many benefits available throughout the year. You will not be reimbursed automatically, however, you are entitled to cancel your membership as outlined in the ESC Sales Conditions. Due to the exceptional circumstances presented by COVID-19, the membership cancellation period has been extended to 2 May 2020 on the condition that you have not accessed any of the benefits online.
Membership - Career Café
Will my career café appointment be kept for the next congress?
No, but you may apply again next year for ESC Preventive Cardiology 2021.
