Congress Status

Will ESC Congress 2020 take place in Amsterdam?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the government in the Netherlands has banned all meetings until 1 September. As Amsterdam was to be our host city, it is no longer possible for ESC Congress to take place as planned. However, the ESC remains committed to delivering practice-changing science to the cardiology community, and we look forward to bringing you 'ESC Congress 2020 - The Digital Experience'.

Will the Amsterdam meeting be postponed ?

The congress will not be postponed. The latest novel science, new ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines, as well as a full abstract programme will be shared in a unique and exciting new format. From Saturday, 29 August to Tuesday, 1 September you can take part in 'ESC Congress 2020 - The Digital Experience'.

In an effort to further support healthcare professionals around the world, the ESC has decided, exceptionally for 2020, to offer complimentary registration to this unique online event.

Registration

Will my registration fee be refunded?

Yes – your registration fee will be refunded in full. To support the cardiology community at this time, the ESC has decided to waive its usual cancellation policy

How will I be refunded?

You will be refunded on the credit card used to register. If the payment was made by bank transfer you can add the bank details in your My ESC account. Note that the refunds will only be made to the account used for the payment of your registration.

How do I register for ESC Congress 2020 - The Digital Experience?

In an effort to further support healthcare professionals around the world, the ESC has decided, exceptionally for 2020, to offer complimentary registration to this unique online event. The digital event is available at no charge but pre-registration is mandatory.

Please note that group or third party registration is not available and that delegates make their registration on their own.

Register now - You'll be asked to sign in to your My ESC account. if you do not have a My ESC account you will need to create one during the registration process.

Science

I submitted my science to ESC Congress. When will the results be announced ?

Abstract and clinical case results were announced on Wednesday, 6 May. Late-Breaking Science results were announced by the end of June. Following the review and selection process, each submitter was notified by email to confirm if their submission is accepted or not. 

Will my abstract still be published and where?

One week before the congress, accepted abstracts will be available via the Scientific Programme & Planner. All presented abstracts will be published in the abstract supplement of the European Heart Journal – Volume 41, October 2020.

Can I withdraw my science and submit it elsewhere?

Yes - withdrawals are still possible after the results are announced. If you wish to withdraw your abstract/clinical case/Late-Breaking Science, please notify us as quickly as possible, stating the title and number to be withdrawn.

CME and Accreditation

Will I get CME credits for attending ESC Congress 2020 - The Digital Experience?

ESC Congress 2020 – The Digital Experience is currently under review process for accreditation with the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®).

EACCME ® has recognition agreements with USA and Canada for ECMEC ® conversion. More information here.

Transportation and Hotels

Can I get refunded for my accommodation?

If your hotel booking was made through the official hotel agency, RAI Hotel Service, we are pleased to inform you that you will benefit from free cancellation. Please contact them with your booking reference. If not, please contact your agency or the hotel directly to check the cancellation conditions.

Will my public transport tickets bought online with my registration be refunded?

Transport tickets purchased together with a registration will be automatically refunded on the credit card used to register. If the payment was made by bank transfer you can add the bank details in your My ESC account. Note that the refunds will only be made to the account used for the payment of your registration.

What steps should I take to get reimbursed for the costs related to my travel?

For your airline travel, contact your airline directly and if you have taken a travel insurance, contact your provider for information about the cancellation procedure. 

Grants

I applied for an ESC Congress Educational Grant. What happens next?

As ESC Congress will not take place in Amsterdam as scheduled, the Congress Grant selection will not be announced for the 2020 edition. We thank you for your recent application and invite you to apply next year.

Membership

I bought my ESC Professional Membership at the same time as my congress registration. Will I be reimbursed the full amount?

We encourage you to keep your membership with its many benefits available throughout the year. You will not be reimbursed automatically, however, you are entitled to cancel your membership as outlined in the ESC Sales Conditions.

''Due to the exceptional circumstances presented by COVID-19, the membership cancellation period has been extended to 4 July 2020 on the condition that you have not accessed any of the benefits online."

I selected to receive ESC Professional Membership at no extra charge at the end of the registration process. Will my membership still be valid when I receive my refund?

As you received your membership with your congress registration, the membership will no longer be valid when you receive your registration refund.

Fellowship of the ESC (FESC)

I have been elected Fellow of the ESC this year how can I collect my Certificate

Your FESC team will be in contact with you directly to ensure you receive your certificate.

I was eligible to attend ESC Congress 2020 for free as I am a FESC. Will my 2020 FESC fee be refunded?

Being a FESC shows your high level of engagement with the ESC. Your FESC fee contributes to the community, ensuring the good running of the FESC programme with its many benefits throughout the year. ESC Congress is taking place in a different format this year due to exceptional circumstances. FESC fees are separate from the ESC Congress 2020 registration fees and are therefore not refundable. The ESC is committed to ensuring the FESC community continues to receive long-term value and recognition from their fellowship and will be in contact with new developments as they become available. ESC Certification Exam

Are the exams due to take place during ESC Congress cancelled?

Yes - the exams have been cancelled. We are currently looking at alternative options to deliver these exams later this year. More information will be released when available.

Governance - Meetings

I was supposed to attend an ESC committee, Association, Council or Working Group meeting. Will it be postponed or held via conference call?

Each meeting chair will decide on the way to proceed and you will be advised in due course.
