ESC Congress 2017

Over 4 500 abstracts will be presented during the Congress in one of the following type of sessions.

Abstract results are now available.



Advances in Science

The combination of original research abstracts with expert review and commentary on related topics.

These sessions features the top-rated abstracts in each topic, linking recent results with clinical care to guide future scientific investigation.

Rapid Fire abstracts

These fast-paced and interactive sessions will present key messages of ten original research abstracts.

Each presentation will be followed by a Questions & Answers discussion with the experts’chairs and the audience.

These sessions will be held in the Hub and Agora, in a casual setting which will allow presenters and audience to carry on the discussions after the session.

Young Investigator Awards

Selected for the outstanding quality of their work, four Young Investigators will present their original research in front of a jury as they compete for prestigious ESC Awards.

The Awards will be focused on on Basic Science, Clinical Science, Thrombosis, Population Sciences, Coronary Pathophysiology and Microcirculation, and new this year, Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (Spotlight of the Congress)

New 2017 - ESC Named lectures will be presented just before the start of the Young Investigator Awards Session
Do not miss the opportunity to listen to renowned leaders in the field of cardiology as an inspiration for the younger generation who will compete for a prestigious ESC Award.

Nursing/Allied Professional Investigator Award

This award aims to recognise significant contributions from new investigators in cardiovascular nursing and allied professions at European level.

Best Posters

A large plasma screen where the four highest scoring posters in each topic will be displayed and presented.

A discussant will visit the presenters during the dedicated viewing time to animate discussions.

Moderated Posters

These sessions are composed of seven original top rated abstracts which will be presented in electronic format.
Research will be presented and discussed by the first author and two moderators during the coffee breaks.

The audience is welcome to join in the discussion. Presenters are in competition for the "Best Moderated Poster" to win a free registration for next year's ESC Congress.

Seven different sessions from Saturday until Tuesday evening.

Visual display of original research abstracts in topic-specific areas – typically a melting pot of ideas, scientific exchange, and networking between peers from across the globe!

Join the Awards Ceremony on Monday 28 August at 18:00 in Dali, the Hub

NEW in 2017 - We invite all delegates to attend the ESC Awards lecture which will be given by ESC 2017 Gold Medallist: A DeMaria (La Jolla, US)

Awards  will then be presented and acknowledgements made:

  • Young Investigator Awards
  • Nursing and Allied Professional Investigator Award
  • Clinical Case Award from the ESC Cardiologists of Tomorrow
