The Editors’ Network – an initiative from National Editors for the benefit of National Editors
The core mission of this ESC Task Force is to facilitate advancement in knowledge and improve the diffusion of scientific, academic and educational contents, as represented through their journals by each National Cardiac Society.
The aim of this 'network' initiative is to enhance the collaboration among NSCJ Editors, whilst guaranteeing the independence, identity and specificity of each national journal.
In September 2008, the NSCJ Editors' Network initiative was fully and officially recognised and validated by the ESC Board 2008-2010. Vice-President for National Cardiac Societies at the ESC Board is responsible for the reporting of the activities at the ESC Board level.
Conflict of Interest Article
Conflict of interest is a hot editorial topic and is also an initiative raised by ICMJE (The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors).
The Editors' Network task force has launced this initiative via an extensive questionnaire in order to get a clear general picture of how the conflict of interest issue is currently handled and what is expected of the journals in our network. The results fo this survey, which was already presented during the Editors' Network meeting during the ESC Congress 2010, will result in a detailed report and and article for consideration by all NSCJ Editors.
As of June 2012, this article was published in 30 National Cardiac Societies journals, 10 Affiliated Cardiac Societies journals and in the European Heart Journal.

During the summer of 2009, the majority of NCVJ editors and several editors among the Affiliated Cardiac Societies answered an extensive questionnaire on education issues, initiated by an article entitled 'The Role of European National Journals in Education' (main author P. Mills). Amendments were made to the paper via comments from several editors and the paper is now being published simultaniously in 28 national journals (November 2009 - January 2010) with all editors having consented to publishing as co-authors.
