Getting to and around Dublin

Airport

Dublin airport is among the busiest airports in Europe in terms of international flights with 98 airlines serving 170 destinations. It is located 12km north of Dublin city centre.

Airport to the city

The new Dublin Port Tunnel cuts the journey time from airport to city centre to 12 - 15 minutes.

Aircoach

Delegates can take the Aircoach at the airport and this will take you directly to the Royal Dublin Society.

Bus Services

Private public / bus services that operate from the airport:

  • Aircoach, a privately run bus service that operates between the airport and a number of city hotels and locations.
  • Airlink (bus 747), operated by Dublin bus, will bring you directly from the airport to Busaras, the central bus station located in the city.
  • Number 41 bus from Eden Quay in the city centre.

Taxis

Taxis are readily available for hire outside the airport (a taxi journey into the city centre from the airport should cost approximately €25).

Ferry Services

It is also possible to get to Dublin by ferry via Holyhead, Liverpool and the Isle of Man ports in Britain. Dublin has two ferry terminals:

  • Dublin Port located in the city centre is serviced by bus.
  • Dun Laoghaire ferry terminal, south of the city, is easily reached by a 20 minute car or DART train journey.

Getting around Dublin

Dublin is a compact city and easily walkable, for example it takes around 25 minutes on foot from O'Connell Street to St Stephen's Green.

Taxis

There are almost 10,000 taxis in Dublin. They can be ordered, taken from street ranks, or simply hailed on approach. Three main taxi ranks in the city centre are located on O'Connell Street, at College Green and St Stephen's Green.

Buses

Dublin bus operates the city's bus routes running from 06:00 to 23:30. A Nitelink late service also operates most nights of the week.  Ask your bus driver to take you to the Royal Dublin Society on Merrion Road. Routes 7, 5, 45 from Nassau Street outside of Trinity College will drop you directly outside of the Main Hall of the Royal Dublin Society.

Train

TheDART railway stretches the full length of Dublin Bay, from Malahide in north  County Dublin to Greystones in County Wicklow. Suburban and InterCity trains service outlying areas of Dublin. Delegates can take the train from Connolly Station, Pearse Station or Tara Street Station in the city centre to either the Lansdowne or Sandymount stops. The Royal Dublin Society is within a five minute walk from these stops.

Luas

The Luas is a state-of-the-art Light Rail Transit (LRT) System. Luas runs on two tramlines, the Green Line, connecting Sandyford to St Stephen's Green, takes approximately 22 minutes total journey time and the Red Line, connecting Tallaght to Connolly Station, takes approximately 48 minutes total journey time. The closest LUAS stop to the Royal Dublin Society is the Charlemont on the Green Line. This tramline is twenty minutes walking distance from the congress centre.
