ICNC 12, see you in Glasgow, Scotland!

2013 ICNC Young Scientist Award goes to Dr Johanna Silvola

Congratulations to Johanna Silvola from Turku, Finland and colleagues who discovered that a Gallium-68 labeled peptide which targets vascular adhesion protein -1 is accumulated in atherosclerotic plaques. These investigators believe that it might be a novel, promising PET tracer to detect plaque inflammation.

Cancer treatment could target inflammation in CVD

Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) with radiolabeled somatostatin analogs, an established treatment for cancer patients, could offer a novel therapeutic approach to decrease levels of inflammation in the atherosclerotic plaques of patients with CVD reports an abstract study at the ICNC11, International Conference on Nuclear Cardiology and Cardiac CT.  Read more

When less is more: new protocol limits use of SPECT MPI

A new stress test protocol that investigates reducing the use of perfusion imaging in low risk patients undergoing SPECT myocardial perfusion imaging for possible angina symptoms was found to be diagnostically safe, revealed a US retrospective analysis.  The study predicted that using exercise ECG stress testing alone in patients with high exercise capacity would have had no adverse effects on their prognosis at five years.  Read more
