The Council will invite other professional groups concerned with cardiovascular diagnosis and therapy through imaging, both within and outside the ESC, to participate in its activities and to become members
of the Council. The Council does not replace or supplant the participating organisations but provides an organised forum for integrated activities and tasks.

The major means towards this goal is for the council to act as a catalyst between all physicians, scientists and technicians involved in cardiovascular imaging in Europe in order to:

  • formulate joint statements and advise the ESC and European health authorities
  • organise activities to promote cardiovascular imaging at the European level both within and outside the Society, working mainly through existing channels, strengthening the concept of a staged multi – modality approach
  • promote quality control in the teaching and performance of CVI
  • promote research leading to a more evidence based use of the different cardiovascular imaging modalities in diagnosis and treatment
  • promote teaching from a multi – modality perspective
  • promote multi – modality imaging as an integral part of clinical guidelines
  • interact with working groups on imaging of National Societies
