Outstanding Achievement Award

Honouring basic researchers in the early stage of their career

 Thomas Thum Lior Gepstein

Congratulations to Thomas Thum (DE) and Lior Gepstein (IL),
this year's awardees of the Outstanding Achievement Awardees

Both received an honorary plaque and 3,000 Euros during the Basic Science Poster Reception at 18:30 on Monday 29 August at the ESC Congress in Paris.

With this award the ESC Council for Basic Cardiovascular Science honours two basic researchers with outstanding accomplishments in the early stage of their career.

If you would like to be a candidate for next year's awards, read through the application procedure below and get ready for 2012!

    Eligible
are investigators involved in basic research who have recently established themselves as independent investigators, typically less than 45 years old. They have sustained outstanding productivity over several years, resulting in a significant contribution to their chosen field. They are expected to continue a successful career. Candidates must be members of one of the 8 ESC Working Groups* of the CBCS.

Candidates can apply directly to the CBCS. At the time of application, formal eligibility criteria will be checked: age and ESC membership must be stated in the cover letter. The full application to be evaluated should consist of a bio-sketch of:

    • 2 pages maximum describing recent contributions and achievements
    • a page highlighting the 5 most important publications
    • 2 names of referees, one from their own institution and one external.

Candidates must attend the ESC Congress 2011 to receive their Award and confirm this commitment; partial exemption of the Congress fee will be offered to allow Awardees to receive their award.

The selection committee will consist of members of the CBCS.

Deadline for application is May 15, 2011. Applicants will be notified of the outcome by mid-July 2011.

Send your applications by email to councils@escardio.org. All details, including the cover letter, should be provided in attachments (not in your email message).
